Fears that a predator is on the prowl in Dundee have been raised after a stranger attempted to induce two children into his car.
One mother has told The Courier of her horror after a man attempted to lure her two young sons into his vehicle.
She says her daughter was also approached by a similar vehicle in another part of the city just over a week ago but did not report it until the second incident came to light.
Police are now hunting the driver of a black car who spoke with the boys in Charleston although officers stressed that there may be an innocent explanation behind the incident.
The brothers had been out cycling and were on their way home when the car pulled up alongside them.
The driver claimed to be a family friend but the older boy was suspicious and fled with his brother.
Their mother tells Wednesday’s Courier the possible consequences do not bear thinking about.
Police have released a description of the man they are seeking in relation to the events.
The youngsters described him as between 25 and 40 years old, with a North East of England accent.
He is said to have been of medium build, with blue eyes, medium-length blond hair and a well-trimmed beard, and of scruffy appearance.
When the incident happened at about 8.20pm on Monday, the man was described as wearing a white top with three black stripes.
He was said to have been driving a black car, possibly a Citroen Saxo, Honda or Skoda.
A spokesman for Police Scotland, Tayside Division, confirmed officers are investigating incidents in Craigmount Avenue at around 8pm on Monday May 26 and on Arbroath Road at around 9pm on Friday May 16.
A spokesman added: “It is possible there is an innocent explanation. Nonetheless, officers want to speak to the driver/drivers of these cars to establish the circumstances.”
Anyone with any information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
