A Dundee man found lying in the street after taking a “legal high” then assaulted two female paramedics by spitting on them, the city’s sheriff court heard.
Gordon Adam, 20, of Nithsdale Avenue, had sentence deferred after admitting the offences, on April 17 at Soapwork Lane.
The court was told that paramedics Gillian Keir and Irene Horsburgh had been called to the scene where they saw Adam lying in the recovery position.
He was unresponsive, having taken a legal high, depute fiscal Laura Bruce said.
They checked his level of consciousness but every time they touched him he pulled away and refused to respond.
He then raised his head and spat on them, striking Ms Keir on her clothing at her chest and Ms Horsburgh on the leg.
Police were called and he was arrested.
Solicitor Anne Johnston asked Sheriff Way if he could impose a non-custodial sentence, despite the fact Adam had eight previous convictions, with custody on seven occasions.
“He has been in and out of custody over the past few years,” she added, wondering if a community-based disposal would help him avoid criminal behaviour.
“His friends gave him a legal high. Normally his problem is alcohol, and he has very little recollection of events,” she added.
Sheriff Way said: “I have to get reports in any case because of his age. He has caused a lot of distress to people who are, after all, trying to help him.”
He deferred sentence until July 1 and remanded Adams in custody.
