A paedophile caught with “repulsive” images and video including a child rape was jailed for 21 months.
The indecent material came to light as police investigated Adam Fraser’s underage sex with a girl he met on facebook, and a sheriff criticised the 31-year-old for putting his victim through the ordeal of giving evidence to a trail before changing his plea.
Fraser, of Dens Road, Dundee, initially denied the charge of having unlawful intercourse with the girl at a house in Dundee on November 9 last year, just days before her 16th birthday.
He also pleaded guilty to having photos or pseudo photographs of children at a house in Dundee between July 2011 and May 2012.
The videogaming enthusiast approached the Fife teenager through the social media site before she travelled to Dundee by bus and then went to his home. Fraser then called off the relationship and police became involved.
When they examined computer equipment and a mobile phone belonging to the accused they found indecent images and video including a two-minute clip of a young girl being abused, which was at the second highest level for such material.
Fraser appeared for sentence at Forfar on Thursday where defence counsel, advocate Drew McKenzie urged Sheriff Gregor Murray not to jail the accused.
He said reports had identified Fraser as requiring “focused intervention”, which would be better provided through a scheme such as the Tay Project for sexual offenders.
Sheriff Murray said that despite Fraser having a limited intellect and medical problems, imprisonment was the only appropriate sentence.
He said Fraser’s initial not guilty plea had led to the teenage girl having to give detailed evidence and that had caused her “significant distress”.
The sheriff said Fraser had effectively bullied the girl after breaking off the relationship in an effort to get her to keep quiet about it.
He added: “The images you had are amongst some of the most repulsive and distasteful one would come across. You have shown little in the way of remorse and little in the way of empathy or feeling for the victim.”
Fraser was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
