Broken glass and dirty nappies are just some of the hazards preventing a Dundee dad from letting his two-year-old daughter play in their garden.
Council tenant Steven Graham, 25, and his partner Nicola Stewart moved into the Balunie Avenue property with their daughter Amy on March 24.
Now two months on the family are still trying to get the council to fulfil their promise of a clean-up.
As the weather gets warmer by the day and Amy can’t go outside to play, Steven is becoming increasingly frustrated that his weekly pleas to the council have gone unanswered.
He said: “We noticed the back garden was a mess before we moved in but we took it on the basis it would be sorted out.
“I work Monday to Friday and calling the council after work on Fridays has become a weekly occurrence for me.
“God knows what is in that garden. There is broken glass everywhere, dirty nappies, bits of metal, sharp shards of plastic. It is just a total mess.
“My daughter is two years old and can’t be left when my partner goes to hang out the washing in the back garden.”
East End councillor Lesley Brennan said she would take the matter up with the east district housing team to ensure they were taking the complaint seriously.
She said: “It is not good enough. He has been let a property and it should be up to a good standard. I wouldn’t be happy if I moved in with my kids. No one would want that.
“You want to live somewhere your toddler can play safely. I want the council to take this seriously and deal with it in a timely manner.”
A Dundee City Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of Mr Graham’s complaint. The back garden will be cleared as soon as possible.”
