Police are probing a potential link between a man in a car who exposed himself to a teenage girl and a predator who attempted to lure two young boys into his vehicle.
A man in “a small black car” flashed the teenage girl on a busy Douglas road just a fortnight after two boys were approached by a man, with a similar description and car, who tried to talk them into his vehicle in Charleston.
A week earlier, the brothers’ sister was approached by a man on Arbroath Road in a similar incident. Police are not ruling out that these three events may be linked.
A manhunt was launched after the incident left the two Charleston brothers traumatised and panic stricken.
Their mother said she was terrified that the same man may have struck again.
She told The Courier: “I hope that the police catch him quickly before he does something. It is really terrible that this is going on and that there are people like that roaming our streets.
“Parents in the city are rightly scared. They need to sit their kids down and warn them that this might be going on.Maybe then if he strikes again someone can get his licence plate or something.”
The brothers described him as between 25 and 40 years old, with a North East of England accent.
He was said to have been of medium build, with blue eyes, medium-length blond hair and a well-trimmed beard, and of scruffy appearance.
He was said to have been driving a black car, possibly a Citroen Saxo, Honda or Skoda.
And the description of that perpetrator is similar to the man police are now hunting in relation to the Douglas incident, which took place on Ballindean Road.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that officers are investigating a report of man who indecently exposed himself to a woman who was walking in Ballindean Road, Dundee at about 5.40pm on Thursday June 5.
“The man is described as being aged in his early 20s, of medium build, with dark blond, short hair. At the time, he was in a small black car and was wearing a black hooded top and jeans.
“Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area at the time or who can assist officers with their inquiries should contact Police Scotland on 101.
“Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Police Scotland also confirmed that they are carrying out inquiries to see if the two incidents are linked.
East End councillor Lesley Brennan said that she was shocked by the Douglas incident.
She said: “Ballindean Road is quite a busy area which is used by school kids at lunchtime and after school.
“Hopefully, people will come forward and contact police with information so that this man is caught quickly and nobody else is put in that situation.
“I’m very disappointed that this has happened in Douglas which is a good community.I’m sure that the community safety wardens will be taking note of this incident as they patrol the area.”
