Dundee’s Camperdown Park is being spoiled for visitors and locals by speeding, illegal parking and littering, it has been claimed.
As one of the city’s prime beauty spots, the problem has only increased now the summer is here.
Residents don’t think the council is doing enough to keep people informed, and to curb antisocial behaviour when it occurs.
Park user Steve Scott said: “The council never seem to do anything to enforce their own rules.”
Signage in the park is also an issue, with insufficient information provided to users about where to park, and the speed limit inside the park.
Mr Scott asked: “If there are no signs informing folk not to park on the grass how will anyone know?”
Council measures to try to minimise parking on the grass, including scores of wooden posts, have had no effect according to residents.
Environment convener Councillor Craig Melville said: “Parking on the grass at any of our green spaces is unacceptable and our staff will move on anyone who is caught.”
The problem of parking and littering is particularly bad on bright summer days as people make the most of the weather.
Mr Scott said: “The illegal parking is definitely more of an issue on warmer days…the amount of food rubbish and leftover barbecue items strewn around the park is an issue.”
As well as damage to council property, littering is common in the park.
The council declined to comment about how many £50 littering fines have been issued, but said: “There is no excuse for dropping litter, especially as there are many bins located throughout Camperdown Park.”
Speeding is also an issue, putting other park users at risk.
The council said: “Our Take Pride in Your Park campaign is ongoing and it aims to promote responsible behaviour.
“We would like to thank the vast majority of park users who work hard to make our spaces green and clean.”
