A Dundee man has received a prestigious £40,000 dance award in London.
John Ross beat more than 100 applicants to win the coveted New Adventures Choreographer Award, set up by director and choreographer Matthew Bourne.
The 26-year-old shared the top prize with two others after being mentored by Mr Bourne, who said the standard for this year’s entries was so high he had to create three distinct awards.
John is set to give a showcase of his own work this September and plans to use his money to mount a lavish production.
He said: “I’m excited, scared and it’s obviously a huge step up, mostly excited though.”
John trained as a dancer at the Scottish School for Contemporary Arts, and graduated from The Place in London in 2011.
He will stage his show at the Hackney Empire for three nights in September, yet to be confirmed, and wants it to be done in the spirit of the work of the Scottish Dance Theatre.
