A landmark city centre newsagent has been given a new lease of life.
RS McColl on Reform Street will open its doors again after businessman Saifal Zaveri purchased and renovated the store.
He now plans to open a new newsagent ‘News Shop’ on the site in the coming days.
The shop, which had been left abandoned for more than six years, will also feature a milkshake bar called Smooth Shakez.
Mr Zaveri says he is very excited about the new venture, which he believes will help restore Reform Street to its former glory as a shopping hub in the city.
He said: “The shop had been vacant for six or seven years. We’ve bought it and I am renting it to my wife and brother.
“It will be a newspaper shop and a milkshake and ice-cream bar, so something a little different.
“We are doing the renovations now there is even a massive safe that has been left over by the bank and we hope to open some time this week,” he said.
“We have come back because people want us back but we also want to bring Reform Street back to its former glory.
“We hope that many people will come to the street, there is another new shop opening nearby as well.”
