Children across Dundee are so excited for the Queen’s Baton Relay they couldn’t wait, and decided to host their own.
Pupils from the Braeview cluster ran from school to school on Wednesday morning in their own Commonwealth Games baton relay.
P7 pupils designed a baton, which was produced by Abertay University on its 3D printer.
Pupils selected from each school carried the baton between every school in the cluster, including Braeview Academy.
Graham Thom, who ran the baton the first leg of the journey, said: “There was a great atmosphere, all the pupils came out.”
He continued: “When the baton was run to each school, it was passed round all the children, so everyone got to be a part of the relay.”
Brenda Hadcroft, head teacher at Braeview Academy, said: “Events like these definitely help improve relations between the schools in the area.”
The relay was part of an ongoing partnership Braeview Academy has with Abertay’s Dundee Academy of Sport.
Ian Lowe, project manager at Dundee Academy of Sport, said: “The baton relay was part of an ongoing project we have, which combines learning with sport.
“This was a special event with the transition pupils, who are about to enter secondary school.
“We had different lessons, all with the aim of teaching kids about the Commonwealth.”
