Part of the new £11 million street layout at Dundee’s central waterfront will open to drivers on Sunday.
The western section of the southern boulevard has been under construction since February when the old Olympia leisure centre and Hilton Hotel were cleared to make way for it.
City council administration leader Ken Guild said: “We have all watched with fascination as the new street pattern has begun to emerge since the buildings were demolished.
“Reaching this stage is giving a real sense of what the central waterfront’s road layout will look like when it is complete.
“Opening this section will allow our contractors access to other areas so that they can continue to make good progress with the rest of the new streets.”
As well as carving out the route and creating the road surface, contractors Sir Robert McAlpine have also carried out associated drainage works and underground utilities.
The project also involves constructing part of the waterfront’s strategic drainage system and the public open space.
Traffic currently using the westbound South Marketgait will be diverted on to the new section of road, which will meet Riverside Drive at a new junction in front of RRS Discovery.
Lights at the junction will control traffic either continuing along Riverside Drive or turning right into the city centre using the new road.
It will also affect all traffic coming off the Tay Road Bridge and heading west.
Eastbound traffic coming from Riverside Drive heading for the city centre will turn left after the junction on to the new carriageway.
