Concern as French Travellers pitch up on Riverside Drive
ByAndrew Liddle
A group of caravans from France has pitched up on community parkland in Dundee.
At least 15 Traveller caravans turned up at the grassy area outside the West End Community and Sports Hub on Riverside Drive.
A group member claimed they were from Strasbourg and he said that they would be staying on the site for “a couple” of days before heading north, probably towards Aberdeen.
The man also stressed the group worked for a living.
West End councillor Fraser Macpherson admitted the Travellers’ presence was concerning.
“I was alerted by some residents and it is a matter of considerable concern. I have been in touch with the police and housing department officials to drive their attention to it so we can get this resolved as soon as possible.
“It’s particularly concerning because it is part of a sporting facility that now can’t be used. There have been quite a number of illicit encampments over the last few years and I’d like to stress that this is not acceptable.”
