The city council is looking into the possibility of setting up a new Travellers’ site.
Dozens of caravans have been parked without permission around Dundee over the last few weeks, including around 15 at Riverside Drive which came from France.
There is already an official site at Balmuir Wood, near Tealing, but Councillor Craig Melville said somewhere for short-term stays may be needed.
He said: “We have been discussing the possibilities of a more transient site, because Balmuir is outside the city boundaries, so we have been looking at other potential options.
“Balmuir is more used for long-term stays although, obviously, it can be used for just a few days. There are a number of residents who have been there for months and it has become a kind of permanent home for them.
“Of course, having a Traveller site in the city might make some people think they are too close, but personally I wouldn’t have any issue with it.
“Another reason why they may not be using Balmuir is that there’s perhaps issues between different types of Travellers, and they don’t like to be beside other groups.”
Mr Melville added: “No one can expect the council to have all the answers, but the reality is when groups of Travellers come to the area it’s very, very difficult for us to get through to certain groups.”
