Minecraft used by pupils to reimagine Dundee Waterfront’s future

Dundee pupils will be using popular computer game Minecraft to digitally imagine and reimagine Dundee Waterfront.
The project, which commences in September, will allow pupils to learn about a variety of subjects through interacting with the digital world.
Derek Robertson, principal investigator at Dundee University’s School of Education, Social Work and Community Education said: “Minecraft is a cultural phenomenon, and it’s important we have kids learn in their cultural domain.”
“Kids don’t come to school from a vacuum, they’re using YouTube and using apps and using Minecraft is a great way to get kids engaged.”
“They’ll be working collaboratively, thinking about town planning, thinking about civic development, about amenity, and about tourism.”
The game, currently the third best-selling game of all time, was jointly created by Dundee-based 4J Studios, and Mr Robertson hopes his project will help continue Dundee’s rich history of digital creativity.
