A man who tampered with his electricity supply to avoid paying has been fined £400.
Paul Wilson, 38, of Balgarthno Road, Dundee, admitted that he prevented his meter from measuring the electricity supply to his property between December 1 2012 and March 13 this year.
The court heard that he tampered with the meter by inserting a wire between the live outgoing and live ingoing ports.
He was further charged with stealing electricity valued at £697.97 by using this method, which defence solicitor Kevin Hampton told the court he will have to pay back to the electricity company in instalments.
The court also heard that Wilson was employed as an HGV driver.
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro told Wilson it was “somewhat unusual” for someone who was in employment and not desperate for money to be involved in a case like this.
She said: “Who do you think you are fooling here?
“Some people are desperate for money but you are making a good wage.
“It is your fellow citizens who are paying for you,” added the sheriff.
