A former newsagent’s on Provost Road can be turned into a bakery and hot food takeaway, even though the development breaches planning policy, the city council has decided.
Rough & Fraser had applied for the change of the use of the premises at number 21, with the intention of selling food such as hot filled rolls, burgers and pies.
Cooking would take place between 7am and 3pm.
A council planning officer noted the premises were less than 30m from the nearest houses, which would not normally be allowed, but there was an existing takeaway even closer.
He added: “The hours of operation of the hot food takeaway use will be restricted to the day-time hours proposed by the applicant, when ordinarily the majority of people will likely be working.
“It is also proposed to restrict the range of foods to be prepared on site to ensure that the unit cannot be used purely as a hot food takeaway.”
A sample menu of the food to be cooked on the premises will have to be approved by the council before the takeaway opens.
