One million square feet of land released for Dundee Waterfront development
ByJames Williamson
Planners behind the £1 billion reshaping of Dundee’s Waterfront have formally released a million square feet of land as they seek to bring a host of new developments and thousands of jobs to the city.
Four plots including the large gap site on the corner of West Marketgait and Greenmarket, and three running alongside the Tay Road Bridge’s northbound off-ramps have been made available, some ahead of schedule.
The step is the just the latest gambit to help attract a string of new retail, leisure, commercial and residential business to the area which a consultant-led report has suggested could support almost 5,000 jobs when fully developed.
Officials said the release of the land had come in response to “demand for prime development sites” in the city’s Central Waterfront, and would be supplemented by a further 500,000 sq ft in early 2016.
