Dundee Photographic Survey of 1991 a fine fit for Facebook

Fascinating photographs of 1990s Dundee are proving a hit online.
Images from the Dundee Photographic Survey of 1991 are being viewed by thousands of people on Facebook.
Student Amy Clark, who is studying history at Aberdeen University, has been digitising the collection, and Kevin McGinley at the Central Library said her work has attracted a huge response.
“There have been thousands of hits when we’ve put them on the library’s Facebook page, and this has been a successful exercise,” he said.
“What has been particularly useful has been the information from the public in allowing us to identify some of the photographs.
“Some of the pictures have been easy to identify, but in others it’s been difficult to verify the location, the subjects or the reason for the photograph.
“By putting them on Facebook the public have been able to answer these questions.”
He added: “We are trying to create a legacy for future generations, and it is great to use Facebook to get information on these pictures as that was a medium that didn’t exist back in 1991.”
