A Dundee woman has spoken of her disgust after a game of crazy golf in Broughty Ferry ended in her eight-year-old grandson being assaulted in a row over the pace of play.
Police are now hunting “the beast” who pushed the child to the ground and threw him into a bush.
The man, who was playing a round with his daughter when he assaulted the youngster, also repeatedly swore at the boy’s grandmother when she tried to intervene.
The boy’s grandmother, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said she was shocked and horrified by the attack at Castle Green.
The 57-year old said: “I cannot believe that any adult can attack a child like that. I was sitting on a bench and my grandson was playing golf. We had had a beautiful day out in the sun in Broughty Ferry, playing on the beach, things like that.
“I think my grandson might have been getting impatient behind this man and his daughter over the length of time he was taking.
“Suddenly I saw the man just turn around and push my grandson in the chest. I could not believe my eyes.”
The vicious assault did not end there, however, with the father pushing the youngster down again before picking him up by the shirt and pushing him into some bushes.
“My grandson fell down and by the time I got up and was making my way over he had pushed him down again,” she said. “He then twisted his shirt and threw him into some bushes.
“It was madness. I confronted the man and he called my grandson all sorts, using really foul language. The language he used in front of his own daughter and all the bairns around was just disgusting.
“I told him that if he had any problems with my grandson he should have come and told me and I would have set it right.”
The distraught pair then reported the incident before hastily heading home.
“I just called the police and tried to comfort my grandson, who was in bits. The guy was really big, a beast. “Thankfully it wasn’t any worse my grandson just got a bruise on his chest near the neck,” she said.
A police spokesman said they were seeking anyone who may have witnessed the attack.
The man is aged 30-40, about 6ft 3in and was wearing navy jeans and a navy/grey speckled T-shirt.
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111.
