A university neighbour has paid tribute to a former Dundee student who died in the Ukraine passenger jet tragedy.
Hannah Meuleman, 22, from the Netherlands, studied psychology, philosophy and film studies during the 2010-11 term.
She was heading to Bali on holiday with her boyfriend, Pieter Huijbers, when Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 was shot down.
Dundee University graduate Joanna-Marie Hall befriended Hannah in her first year, and remembers her as a caring and loving friend.
Ms Hall said: “I knew her quite well in first year, which seems so long ago now.
“She did philosophy, which I took in first year as well, and she lived in the block of flats next to me in freshers week, so we got to know each other quite well.
“She was so sociable and genuinely a really lovely person. I had a tough time settling in first year I often felt left out but she would always help me and invite me out.
“I remember once when I had a falling out with one of my friends on a night out, she walked me all the way home and we just sat and talked for hours into the night.
“She really calmed me down and helped me feel better, which is not something everyone can do. She didn’t have to do that, but that was just the kind of person she was.”
Ms Hall, 22, who just graduated with a degree in politics, added: “It is always sad when someone you have spent time with dies. I only found out that she was involved yesterday.
“I was already quite upset about the disaster and the images on the news. To know that someone you knew went through all that is very hard and upsetting.”
Hannah, who lived in the Nijmegen area near the border with Germany, went on to study psychology at Utrecht University after her term in Dundee. Her boyfriend worked at a construction company.
A memorial is to be held for Hannah in the Netherlands on Wednesday.
