Millions of pounds worth of modified cars are due in Dundee this weekend for what is shaping up to be the biggest “petrolhead” gathering the city has seen.
Organisers expect around 1,750 vehicles to travel from all corners of Scotland for Saturday night’s event at the Kingsway retail park including a 300-strong convoy from the Aberdeen club, which is one of the groups behind the rebirth of the popular Big in Dundee gathering.
The central Scotland’s N/A Nonsense club has put together the meet with Track and Street Grampian and home club Chasing 7, and say they will be working with police and the retail park to ensure a successful and well-behaved event.
N/A Nonsense was behind last year’s Kirkcaldy tribute to Fast and Furious movie star Paul Walker, which drew more than 2,500 vehicles, and club chief James Stephen said he hopes Saturday evening’s event will be as big a success.
“Big in Dundee was always a great event and we’ve always had intentions to bring it back,” he said.
“We will be looking at millions of pounds worth of cars, from £100,000 modified Japanese imports to high-end sports cars, including Ferraris.
“People are coming up from Carlisle and down from Shetland, so it’s a big thing.”
“For the people who want to come out and see us it will be a night’s entertainment,” he said before adding that “boy racers” should stay clear of the event.
“We’ve spoken to the police and we’ll be working with them to make sure there are no problems. We have a good reputation and we want it to be well supported and well organised, so we’ll be keeping people in line,” he added.
“The location has enough room and it’s easily accessible from the dual carriageway, but it’s out of the road of houses. It’ll also mean a lot of people spending money on fuel and food there on a Saturday night.”
He added: “We’re all about trying to show people how serious this is, that we’re not boy racers and it’s way beyond just a hobby for us.”
The Saturday night event will get into full swing around 7.30pm.
