Dundee University rector Brian Cox has hailed a new advice centre for students unsure where to turn for help.
The Hollywood star officially opened the new inquiry centre at Dundee University Students’ Union on Balfour Street.
The facility is based at the very heart of campus and will act as a first-stop drop-in centre for students requiring assistance, but unsure where, what or who to ask for help.
The team will help with inquiries regarding travel, accommodation, finances, study support, health and careers.
Mr Cox said: “The great thing about this university is to be able to see it come together as a community. It seems to me that the one-stop shop is emblematic of that community.
“This is something I’m very, very proud of. I think it’s been a long time in coming and it’s going to be an amazing place.
“It’s central, the students know where to come, they will be able to see it and go to discuss their difficulties and things that they can’t deal with. It is an excellent opportunity.”
Deputy president of Dundee University Students’ Association, Stefan Tomov, said: “This is a great initiative. Both DUSA and the university are committed to delivering an excellent student experience, and this is going to enhance everything that is possible for our students here.
“I hope all the students are going to come here and make use of the services.”
The inquiry centre will also maintain a regular presence at the Ninewells and Fife campuses.
Inquiry centre manager Margaret Wyllie said: “Having such a prominent presence at the heart of the university means all students will know where to find help if they need it.
“The new centre will also mean we can enhance the range of activities on offer and, with the assistance of student services colleagues, we will arrange workshops, events and activities aimed at helping students develop the personal skills required throughout their academic career and after they graduate.”
