Police hunt Olympia pool pervert after young girl reports secret filming in changing room

The girl reported being filmed in her changing cubicle at the Olympia swimming pool.

Police in Dundee are hunting a possible sex pest after a young girl reported being secretly filmed while she was getting changed at Olympia swimming pool.

The girl initially told her grandparents she had found a camera but, after speaking to her, they realised someone had been filming her in the cubicle she was changing in.

Police Scotland have confirmed they are investigating a complaint of Tuesday’s incident and are following “positive lines of inquiry”.

The girl’s gran said she was “disgusted” that her granddaughter had been subjected to the sick behaviour after the woman and her husband had taken their grandchildren for their weekly swim.

She said: “Our granddaughter came up to us saying she had found a camera, but at first we didn’t realise what she meant by it.

“As soon as I realised what had really happened I immediately told members of staff, who then went on to contact the police.”

The phone the girl had “found” was actually being used by someone to film her as she was getting changed in the cubicle.

As soon as she noticed, the culprit apparently stopped filming and left the scene.

“We don’t know how many pictures there are or how long she was being filmed for,” the gran said.

“There’s the worry about not knowing where the film is and what the person is doing with it. I am absolutely disgusted it’s awful.”

Police arrived at the leisure centre just after 6pm on Tuesday.

Now the grandmother is concerned about other youngsters who go to the swimming pool without adults.

She said: “I know we, as a family, will be more cautious but I’m worried about the kids who go to the pool with groups of pals and without their parents.”

A spokeswoman for Tayside Division said: “Officers are making an inquiry into a complaint of an incident which happened at the Olympia Leisure Centre on Tuesday August 12 and are following positive lines of inquiry.”

The pool is run by charitable body Leisure and Culture Dundee.

A spokeswoman said: “Staff at Olympia contacted Police Scotland following an incident.”
