Action has been taken to stop disruption caused by a new traffic system on Lochee High Street, with more signs added along the road.
Following the opening of a new one-way system on the street, the direction of traffic now goes from Bank Street to Nicoll’s Lane, with the entrance from the dual carriageway now at the south of the street.
However, additional signs have been added to try to limit confusion for residents, as well as the repositioning of a sign which gives information about the one-way system.
It is now placed in the centre of the road, leading to High Street from Melville Street.
Lochee councillor Tom Ferguson said he had been pushing for the extra signs that were in place on Tuesday morning, and also addressed fears that the new systems will see high amounts of traffic go past St Mary’s Primary School.
He said: “I think it’s absolutely right that more signs have been added. I was on to the council this morning to see if we could get more done and make it clearer.
“At the top of my agenda is the safety of the community and the safety of pedestrians in that area.
“I’d actually like to see more safety measures taken on the street, such as speed bumps. It may take a bit of getting used to but there will be positive action.”
The issues with the road have been ongoing since Tuesday morning, when the changes came into effect, leading to anger from motorists.
One delivery driver, who did not want to be identified, said the new system was an “absolute shambles”.
He said: “Some people were using the new system, others were coming in the old way. By 9am it was a complete and utter nightmare.
“Everybody who was trying to drop the kids off didn’t know which way they were going. I’m dreading going back because I don’t know what I’m going back to.”
Margaret Duncan, an employee at Sew Creative on the High Street, said: “I don’t know why they had to change it from a two-way system. There was room for it.”
