The number of potholes repaired on Dundee streets rose by a quarter to an average of 70 per day, new council figures have shown.
The total number filled in came to 25,808 in 2012-13, compared to 20,740 the year before. Council transport chiefs put the increase down to the excessively wet and prolonged cold weather during the 2012-13 winter.
The year also saw a near doubling in the amount of patching and resurfacing work carried out.
The figures, to be presented to councillors next week, show that despite the increase in repair work the cost to the taxpayer has been kept down.
Comparing Dundee with other Scottish cities shows that in six categories of repair and maintenance Dundee was better value in all but one. When compared with the cities’ average rate, repairs in Dundee cost less across the board.
