A West End councillor has called for a probe into the state of Riverside Drive in Dundee.
The key artery was closed on Sunday as works were taking place, and is closed at night this week while works are completed. It reopens during the day.
Many drivers complained after their Monday morning commute that the thoroughfare was rendered close to unpassable.
Commuters also feared for the passengers of ambulances, as the route is a key route for Ninewells Hospital.
Ruth Gordon said: “I couldn’t believe the state of the road between the airport and the roundabout when I drove there this morning.
“I counted 12 ‘ramp’ signs, which meant drivers had to contend with 24 bumps. One of these is no more than 12 inches wide which makes it very difficult to deal with.
“I think it is wrong to leave the surface in such a state, especially as ambulances will use it regularly.”
West End councillor Fraser Macpherson said: “I will definitely be raising the issue with the road maintenance department and Tayside Contracts. It’s important that the road is open during the day, but also that we try to leave the road in a good state when it is open.
“If we think in the longer term, the purpose of this is that there is a better skid resistance and road markings on the roundabout, and working on it overnight is preferable to closing the road for several days.
“This wasn’t work that could be completed on Sunday and, whenever you complete work like this, there’s a tension between completing it quickly and completing it with minimal disruption, and they have tried to strike a balance here.”
A Dundee City Council spokesman said: “The road surface is a temporary surface as works are still ongoing.”
