An eleventh hour bid to scrutinise changes to a unit that helps teenage mothers has been rejected.
At Dundee City Council’s education committee, opposition members attempted to review how changes to the Young Mums’ Unit (YMU) at Menzieshill High School might affect its ability to operate. The YMU is due to move to Baldragon Academy and lose its teaching post under cost-saving measures.
Labour leader Kevin Keenan said: “There is a real need for a report into this so we can work out what the problems are and how to solve them.”
Education boss Paul Clancy said that the YMU “will be exactly the same”, except for an extra “90 second to two minute” walk.
SNP councillors voted down the review proposal by three votes.
