A ‘body’ reportedly recovered from the water at Dundee’s City Quay has turned out to be a lifeboat training dummy.
A concerned City Quay resident contacted the Courier after seeing a “dressed male body” lifted out of the water by the Broughty Ferry Lifeboat crew shortly after 8pm last night.
The resident, who filmed the incident, said that he thought the ‘discovery’ may have been linked to a nearby docked ship after seeing lifeboat personnel board the vessel earlier.
However, Police Scotland said they had no reports of a body being recovered and a further call to the Broughty Ferry Lifeboat finally cleared up the matter.
A spokesman said the ‘fairly realistic’ training dummy was thrown in the water and recovered as part of a routine training exercise.
It’s not the first time a training dummy has sparked concerns from the public. Last year reports of a ‘body’ in Morecambe Bay also turned out to be a false alarm.
