Call for action as two new Traveller camps are set up in Dundee
ByThe Courier Reporter
Travellers have finally left Caird Park in Dundee but two new camps have been set up elsewhere in the city.
Around 30 caravans, which had been camped there since the start of the week, vacated the site overnight after the council raised legal action at the city’s sheriff court. Stacks of rubbish including gas canisters, beer bottles and boxes have been left at the site following their departure.
Now, 23 caravans have pitched at sites at Luna Place and Swan House in the Technology Park, while a further nine caravans have appeared on land next to Dundee Ice Arena.
Travellers have already occupied sites at Riverside Drive and Camperdown Park in the last couple of weeks.
West End councillor Fraser Macpherson has called for changes to the legal process to prevent Travellers repeatedly moving from one site to another.
He said he had contacted council officers to ensure the owners of the site were aware and that “appropriate steps” were taken to “see this come to an end” quickly.
