Sailors’ Society has new way to welcome visitors to Dundee
ByThe Courier Reporter
Seafarers arriving in the port of Dundee now have the opportunity to enjoy visits to the city and its surroundings, courtesy of the Sailors Society.
The society’s chaplain, Peter Donald, has been supplied with a new seven-seater vehicle for his work with the crews on ships that visit the port.
He said: “They are always pleased to have a visit from a chaplain.
“They love to get maps and information about the area, newspapers from their home countries, telephone cards and top-ups, and this new vehicle will be an added bonus in my work with them.”
The Sailors Society is a Christian charity which has chaplains in seaports around the world caring for the welfare of seafarers, regardless of their race or religion. Practical help is offered to those in any kind of need, such as being injured or sick, abandoned due to the recklessness of some ship owners, or even victims of the menace of piracy.
“Seafarers of all nationalities sacrifice their own lives for the benefit of their families,” says Peter, who is also port chaplain at Montrose and Perth.
