A Dundee man had to restrain a passenger after trouble allegedly flared on a holiday flight to Turkey.
A Thomas Cook flight from Glasgow to Dalaman had to be diverted to Gatwick after the disturbance was reported to police by the pilot on Wednesday.
According to a family member, Dundonian Jimmy Costello intervened after the behaviour of a passenger said to have a fear of flying gave cause for concern.
The family member said: “He was throwing his arms so about Jimmy was asked to restrain him until they got to Gatwick. They had to keep him down until the police came.”
Officers boarded the flight and a man was taken into custody.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Officers arrested a man who was a passenger on suspicion of being drunk on an aircraft. There are no reports of injuries or damage.
“The man is currently in custody for interview and further inquiries.”
A spokesman for Gatwick Airport said the incident was being dealt with by police and the flight would continue to its final destination.
