The distraught parents of a Dundee man who died suddenly have told of their shock at being given the news.
William and Christine Dillon, both 78, said the first they knew of the death of their son Billy, 52, was when police turned up at their home on Friday evening.
“Police officers came to see us around 6pm on Friday and told us that our son had been found dead at the home of a female friend who lives in Strathmore Avenue,” said Mr Dillon.
“They weren’t able to tell us then how he had died, only where and when.
“We still don’t know what happened to him as no one has been able to tell us. We don’t know who his friend is, and we have been given no details yet of the circumstances in which he was found.
“Police did tell us there appeared to be nothing suspicious about his death.”
Mrs Dillon said that Billy, who didn’t work, had suffered periods of ill-health for many years but so far there was nothing to suggest this had led to his death.
“We last saw Billy last Tuesday when he came round for a cuppie,” said Mrs Dillon. “He never stayed long when he came to see us but he did visit on a regular basis.
“He was a quiet man who kept himself to himself, and we really don’t know too much about his friends and his private life.
“But he was our son and this has come as a complete shock.”
A police spokeswoman said: “Police were made aware of the sudden death of a male in his fifties in the Strathmore Avenue area of Dundee at around 12.30pm on Friday.”
