Dundee man falsely claimed over £13,000 in benefits
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Dundee man scammed more than £13,000 in benefits by hiding a stash of cash from welfare bosses.
Stephen Campbell claimed thousands in Jobseeker’s Allowance based on his lack of income, as well as council tax benefit and housing benefit.
In truth he had capital in the bank and so was not entitled to the handouts.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard Campbell claimed £13,064.50 between March 2012 and February 2014 that he was not entitled to.
Campbell, 62, of Barnes Avenue, Dundee, pleaded guilty to two charges under the Social Security Administration Act and said he had repaid the cash in full to the DWP.
Sheriff Alistair Carmichael continued the case until later this month for reports and for Campbell to take legal advice.
He said the court viewed the £13,000 as “quite a serious amount of money”.
