Wind ruins plans for a day of sporting fun in City Square

A sports event in Dundee city centre had to be cancelled today due to ferocious high winds.

The ‘Come and Try Day’, which was designed to get people to take up a sport, had to be called off by organisers because of the adverse weather.

Even large pieces of sports equipment were being blown by the high winds on Saturday, the group behind the City Square event said.

A post on Dundee Lesuire and Culture’s Facebook page said: “Due to the high winds, the decision has been taken to cancel the Leisure and Culture Dundee ‘Come and Try Day’ at City Square.

“The team has been on site from 8am, however, the wind is moving even the large pieces of equipment making it unsafe.”
