A real-life Dundee karate kid has become a European champion aged just eight.
James Gourlay fought his way to victory in the European Children’s Karate Championships in Belgium.
He competed in the six to eight-year-old advanced sparring category in his first major competition.
James has been training with Kanzen Karate for around three years and sensei Dan Woods said: “He trains hard and has been working hard, especially over the last six months, to prepare.”
Meanwhile, 12-year-old Leah Dunn, current world champion in her category, took second place, narrowly missing out at the finals of the 11 to 12-year-old advance sparring.
Kanzen Karate sensei Roy O’Kane said: “On the back of Leah winning the world championships, James winning the European championships is great and we had four others win medals.”
A total of 10 children from the Dundee club were selected to represent Scotland at the 7th WUKF European Championships for Children in Liege.
Jude Steven, Rhys Gilchrist and Cody Grieve also won medals in their respective categories.
