Dundee City Council’s education committee has been urged to approve plans to close Menzieshill High School when they vote on its future next week.
If councillors approve the controversialproposal to close the school on Monday June 22, pupils will be transferred to Harris Academy for the start of the 2016/17 academic year.
Campaigners fighting to save the school are already planning a protestoutside the City Chambers on the night of the vote.
Education convener Councillor Stewart Hunter said: “In its report, Education Scotland has backed our view that the transfer of pupils to the new Harris Academy has a number of overall educational benefits.
“I am absolutely committed to the ongoing drive to raise attainment and offer new educational opportunities for more of our pupils.
“The opening of the new Harris Academy represents a unique chance to improve the learning experience for pupils who could be attending an increasingly empty Menzieshill High with a restricted curriculum.
“I do not want to see the decline of Menzieshill High continue as it is not in the best interests of pupils.”
Mr Hunter added:“It is never any easy decision to close a school, but I believe we would be doing this as a continuation of a long-running and successful programme to improve the learning and teaching environment for more of our young people.
