Evacuation after chemical spill in Dundee’s west end

A business in Dundee’s west end has been evacuated following a chemical spill.
A massive emergency service response descended on the Annfield RoadIndustrial Estate when a container of hazardous, and unidentified, acid was pierced.
The alarm was raised at 10.40am after residents reported a “chemical smell”.
Firefighters and police sealed off Annfield Road as they dealt with the leak.
All three emergency services, including major incident ambulance and SFRS units, attended.
Firefighters in protective suits were seen coming out of Halley Stevensons on Annfield Road.
The fluid, understood to be hydrochloric acid, but not positively identified, could be seen reacting with Tarmac in the yard.
The director of the company insisted that the staff had been evacuated without injury and the spill was in the cleanup phase.
