Homes evacuated after acetylene cylinder fire in Dundee
ByDamon Rhind
Residents were evacuated after firefighters were called to deal with an acetylene cylinder that had caught alight at Dundee’s Camperdown Industrial Estate.
Emergency services were contacted by the mechanic who was using the cylinder at AM Phillips building at about 1.35pm.
Roads were closed in the Ardler area, namely Rosemount Road at its junction with Harrison Road and Turnberry Avenue.
No one was reported hurt.
The fire was quickly extinguished but due to the potential threat that a heated cylinder can pose, an exclusion zone was established and residents in the immediate area were asked to leave their homes.
Other householders were asked to stay indoors and to the far side of their properties, until the incident has been dealt with.
Firefighters anticipate being at the scene for several hours.
The incident was initially dealt with by two appliances from Macapline Road Station, but a thermal imaging camera was requested to assist with the assessment of the situation shortly after 3pm.
Police Scotland confirmed they were in attendance to direct traffic.
