Son left dad with broken ribs

A son who left his father with broken ribs and a footprint on his chest in a violent attack is behind bars.

Dylan Conway battered his dad just months after setting fire to his front door in a bid to wake him up after he’d been kicked out of the house.

Conway now faces a jail term after admitting charges of wilful fire-raising, assault and breaching bail.

Dundee Sheriff Court was told that after the attack Conway had gone to the doors of neighbouring flats for help then called an ambulance claiming his father had hurt himself while falling.

But when paramedics arrived they discovered a footprint on the 46-year-old’s chest that matched the pattern on the sole of Conway’s shoe.

Conway, 20, of Landsdowne Court, Dundee, admitted carrying out the assault on May 28 this year.

He also pled guilty to a charge on indictment of wilful fire-raising on September 14 last year.

The court heard that his father had been woken by his smoke alarm to discover that lit pieces of napkin had been pushed through the door.

Solicitor Nicola Brown said alcohol had been an issue for her client for some time.

Sheriff George Way deferred sentence until next month for the preparation of a social work report and remanded Conway in custody, saying: “It may be there is light at the end of the tunnel but until I know that bail is refused.”
