Emergency services were called to Broughty Castle after a boy got into difficulty in the River Tay.
Police, paramedics and the Broughty Ferry lifeboat crew were called to the scene after the incident at about 5pm on Tuesday.
The 14-year-old was rescued by the inshore lifeboat crew. He was taken to the lifeboat station to be checked over by paramedics and did not require further treatment.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We were called to Broughty Ferry at 5.28pm. Upon arrival he was found to be fully conscious and breathing.”
It is thought the boy may have gone into the water to retrieve a football.
