Dundee’s Traveller saga rolls on to Fintry

The saga of illicit Traveller sites in Dundee has rumbled on with around 30 caravans pitching up at a site off Jack Martin Way in Fintry.

One local, who did not wish to be named for fear of retribution, claimed Travellers had moved boulders and cut padlocks put in place by the council to access the current site.

The man said: “I’m absolutely furious. I saw caravans and trucks streaming past the house on Thursday night. They were here this time last year and the council spent time and money blocking the area off with boulders and padlocking the gate.

“They left three massive industrial skips of rubbish after they left and it’s always a huge council operation to clear up the mess and move them on.

“The Travellers come in and undercut local landscape gardeners and builders and then dump commercial waste wherever they set up camp. It’s infuriating and unfair for taxpayers.”

North East councillor Brian Gordon said: “The Travellers have said they’ll be in Dundee for the summer and they’ve no intention of moving.

“This is a massive group, with around 30 caravans. They keep moving from one site to the next and people are fed up and worried about the situation. It’s costing the council a fortune in time and money, not to mention the court costs of moving them on.”
