Man charged over recovery of firearms from Tay riverbed

A man has been charged after firearms were pulled from the River Tay by police.
Officers rushed to Dundee’s City Quay in April after a member of the public apparently noticed two suspicious objects stuck in the mud of the riverbed.
A team then worked to extract the items from the river.
The firearms were sent for analysis by a specialist forensics team.
A police insider said 54-year-old Paul Markie has now been charged in connection with the discovery.
Eyewitnesses at the time described the items recovered from the river as being in a state of disrepair, appearing to have been in the water for some time.
The recovery was made just metres from the police forensics lab at West Victoria Dock Road but the items are believed to have been sent elsewhere for expert analysis.
A police spokeswoman said: “A 54-year-old man has been charged and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
