Scottish Defence League planning Dundee demonstration within weeks
ByAndrew Liddle
A mass protest by members of the controversial Scottish Defence League could take place in Dundee within weeks.
The group which has been forced to deny allegations of Islamophobia has signalled its intention to stage a protest in the city centre.
A senior member told The Courier that the group could “flash demo” the City Square without telling police in advance, bussing members in from around the country.
It’s thought such a move could be a bid to avoid counter protests by anti-fascists that have characterised previous visits.
In 2013 at least 100 officers had to be deployed as the two groups faced off in the city centre.
Lib Dem member Fraser Macpherson said the SDL’s values were “diametrically opposed” to those of the people of Dundee who “do not support” the group.
