Medical science inspires Duncan of Jordanstone graduate’s art

A Dundee art graduate has secured funding for her creative business which uses her own brain scan to raise awareness of MS.
Visual artist Kirsty Stevens, a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, is one of 16 creative start-ups to secure a share of £100,000 investment from Starter for 6.
Diagnosed with MS seven years ago, Kirsty has created Charcot as a means both of offering beautiful designs and raising awareness.
Named after Jean Martin Charcot, the neurologist who first discovered MS, Charcot specialises in surface design with etchings on glass and prints on fabrics using her own MRI scans as imagery.
She said: “MS is an unknown and unseen condition. Through the designs I hope to at once make something positive out of the negativity of MS and raise awareness of the condition more broadly.”
Other Dundee-based companies to benefit are Ponyosquid and AJ Equestrian.
