Dundee City Council plans to move parking bay painted on pavement

The council plans to relocate the disabled parking bay.

Dundee City Council will relocate a disabled parking space after they painted half of it on the pavement.

The space covers a section of road and part of the pavement on Brantwood Avenue.

However, Morag Lennie, 70, who suffers from “crippling” arthritis, said it was the right thing for the council to do.

She said: “I didn’t ask the council to do it like that and I’m quite surprised they did, but pleasantly so.

“Lots of people park half their cars on the kerb because it can be very busy on this street. I’ve had my wing mirrors taken off at least four times since I’ve lived here, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.”

She added: “It gets very busy when the school comes out, which I don’t have a problem with, but I needed to make sure I had a space, especially on a Friday, which is the day I most often go out to do what I need to do.

“Maybe the council have finally used a bit of common sense.

“I’ve lived here for nine-and-a-half years and have always parked on and off the pavement.

“I suppose they could have made the pavement narrower and widened the road, because you could park a Centurion tank on the pavements around here. Not once have the police knocked on the door saying any of us are breaking the law.”

A council spokesman said: “The council will be looking to provide an alternative location for this bay and will be speaking to the blue badge holder about how we reach a suitable solution.”
