Panicked Tesco call centre staff thought they were being targeted when a car rammed the front of their Dundee workplace.
Police attended the Tesco call centre in Baird Avenue after a car smashed into the front of the building at 9.30am on Friday.
Eyewitnesses said the car sped away after crashing into the entrance of the building, leaving the front doors damaged but no one injured.
Tesco erected a cordon around the area and policelater traced a man, who was taken to hospital.
Around 1,000 employees had just started their shift andhave complained that theyhave been kept in the dark over the incident.
A call centre worker, who wished to remain anonymous, said managers have failed to tell them what had happened and only advised them to use another door.
The worker said: “Everyone is very concerned, as the centre holds over 1,000 staff members at that time of the day and many use that door to access the smoking area.”
One concerned employee phoned The Courier to getinformation after sayingmanagers failed to tell them anything.
The employee said staff were speculating they might have been targetedafter the cancellation of a Fuel Save scheme.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland attended at Baird Avenue, Dundee, at 9.30am on Friday August 14 after reports of a road traffic incident. A man was taken to hospital for assessment.”
A Tesco spokesman said: “Our Dundee Customer Service Centre is operating normally following an incident thismorning. We are supportingthe police as they investigate the circumstances.”
