Police on South Road in Dundee after a girl was hit by a lorry
A nine-year-old girl has suffered broken bones after being hit by a lorry on a busy Dundee road.
The youngster is understood to have been pulled under the vehicle, which was carrying paving stones, after being struck while crossing South Road at the junction of Craigowan Road at around 4.10pm on Monday.
Passing motorists rushed to help the girl,who was taken to be treated at NinewellsHospital by an ambulance that was in thewaiting traffic.
The girl is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days. The 60-year-old male lorry driver was uninjured.
Shortly after the crash, officers cordoned off a large section of the road, which remained closed for several hours, before carrying out door-to-door inquiries.
One resident told The Courier: “But I’ve not knownof any serious accidents like this to happen fora while.
“I hope the person involved isn’t too badly hurt.”
Sergeant Craig McBean said: “We receiveda call in relation to a road traffic accident.
“The incident involved a skip lorry and a child pedestrian.We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed it.”
