New recycling containers will cost the council more than £480,000 as the second phase of Dundee’s programme is rolled out further.
Dundee’s environment committee is to be asked to approve the spend for 48,000 containers at its meeting on Monday.
Convener Craig Melville said: “Phase one has exceeded our expectations and I would like to thank everyone who has done their bit to meet national recycling targets.
“The roll out of phase two will begin on November 9.
“We are preparing for this by making sure that we have the specific equipment needed to ensure that local residents can play their full part in this improvement to recycling services. I take the city’s recycling responsibilities very seriously and our plans represent a sensible way forward.”
The new system will include a weekly food waste collection, the addition of plastics and metal collections and a move from weekly to fortnightly collections for general waste.
Phase two will include Menzieshill, Charleston, Lochee (west), Tullideph, Pentland, City Road, Brook Street (west end), Blackness Road (east), Peddie Street, Hawkhill, South Tay Street and Windsor Street.
Flatted properties are to be individually assessed to decide the best containers and collection methods and uplifts for flats using shared bins may be more frequent.
