Fury at lorry driver who forced horse off the road
ByThe Courier Reporter
A Dundee woman has condemned the lorry driver who forced her horse off a narrow country road, causing it to injure itself.
Hilary Nicholson, 45, said her 23-year-old mare Tilly needed stitches after the incident on the outskirts of Dundee.
Hilary, who works as an animal control officer, said that as a result her “normally bombproof” horse now gets quite spooked when vehicles pass by.
She said her friend, Leanne Kempton, 29, from Charleston, had been hacking Tilly out for her on Berryhill Road, near Fowlis, when a large HGV came along the road.
She said: “Leanne thought the lorry would stop to let her take Tilly off the road as it was at a very narrow section. The driver slowed down but didn’t stop.
“He carried on trying to pass them and Tilly got a fright and was forced into the ditch at the side of the road. Leanne fell off and although she got an awful shock she fortunately wasn’t injured.”
However, Tilly was then stuck in the ditch and required stitches after she was eventually rescued with the help of staff from the James Hutton Institute.
Police confirmed they are investigating the incident, which took place on August 13 at 6pm.
