A discarded needle reported to Dundee City Council was still lying on a footpath more than a week after it was flagged up.
A man contacted The Courier claiming his calls to the local authority have been “ignored” and that the needle was still lying in the same location near the Camperdown roundabout.
The council claim community safety wardens made efforts to locate the syringe but were unable to find it.
However, the complainer said he fears children remain at risk until it is found and disposed of.
“The needle is lying on a footpath near the Camperdown roundabout,” he said. “When I first saw it last Tuesday I rang the council and reported it.
“I then rang again on Friday to say that I was disappointed it hadn’t been removed.
“When I reported it, the council said it was a matter of priority but it’s still there now.
“I offered to take photos and send them in to them but they said they didn’t need any. It seems like they’re just ignoring it.
“I know not to touch it but that’s not to say there won’t be children who come along and pick it up.
“That could easily happen. I’m shocked that it has taken so long to deal with.”
Dundee City Council urged the caller to get back in touch to offer a more precise location.
A spokesman said: “We received a report from a member of the public alerting us to his discovery of a needle on Friday January 8.
“Following new information, the rapid response team found the needle this afternoon.”
