Almost £1,000 worth of possessions was stolen from a Dundee family in a break-in over the weekend.
Darren and Karen Gaffney, who live in Corbie Wood off Graham Street, returned on Sunday afternoon to find their home ransacked.
The couple had travelled north for a weekend away with their five-year-old son Liam on Saturday morning and arrived back home at around 1pm on Sunday.
As they entered, Karen noticed that the door leading from the kitchen was open and discovered that the back door had been smashed.
A Citizen men’s watch, an Armani men’s watch, a Michael Kors men’s watch and a DKNY ladies’ watch were stolen.
The thieves also made off with £145 in cash.
But Karen said it is the psychological impact which will be more difficult to come to terms with.
She said: “It is an awful feeling knowing that someone has been in your house going through your belongings.
“We have changed the bed sheets and the watches can be replaced but the knowledge that someone was here is harder to get rid of.
“It has had an affect on Liam he still asks me if the bad man will come back and I have to tell him that he has gone to jail.”
A police investigation into the crime is ongoing.
Darren said: “I didn’t go to sleep at all on Sunday night.
“Even the slightest bit of noise outside now puts me on edge. We have lived here for four years and have never heard of there being any problems, so it is a bit of a shock.
Anyone with any information which could help officers in their investigation should contact the police on 101.
